History of Mason County

Mason County was originally part of the Bexar District. In the time that Gillespie County was marked off in 1848, the majority of what would become Mason County was included within the boundaries. On the 22nd of January 1858 Mason County, named in honor of Fort Mason, was established through an act of the state legislature.
