History of Motley County
Motley County was created on the 21st of August 1876 and was created after Young and Bexar Counties. It was incorporated on February 5th 1891. The huge Matador Ranch, established in 1882 by a syndicate of Scotland and operating even after its liquidation at the end of 1951. It is situated within Motley and five counties that surround it.
Demography
In 2000, according to the 2000 census at the time of 2000 1,426 individuals were living in 606 households and 435 families lived throughout the town. In 2000, the densities of the population was 1 person/sq mile (1/km 2). Housing units of 839 were 1 sq mi (0.5/km 2). The race composition in the County was 87.38 percent White, 3.51% African American, 0.63% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.14 percent Pacific Islander, 6.31% from other races and 1.89 percentage of people from at least two races. The county’s population was 12.13 percent of the people living there were Latinos or Hispanics of any race.
In the 606 households, 26.60 percent had children younger than 18 in the household, 60.20% were married couples living together, 8.70% had a female householder who had no husband and 28.20 percent were not families. The majority of 25.70 percent of households were comprised of people, and 15.30 percent had a person living in a home on their own and was aged 65 or over. The median household size is 2.35 as well as the typical size of the family was 2.82.
The county’s distribution of age was 24.00 percent of people under 18 years old, 6.00 percent between 18 and 24. 21.10 percent between the ages of 25-44, 25.20% from 45 to 64 as well as 23.70 percent of those aged 65 years or older. The median age was 44 years old. In 100 women it was 101.70 males. In 100 women aged 18 and above they had 92.90 males.
