History of Harrison County

Harrison County was named for Texas revolutionary Jonas Harrison. It was incorporated in 1842.. The area of the county was reduced in 1846 when the territories were carved out to form Panola in addition to Upshur counties. Marshall was established in 1841, and designated as the county seat in 1842.

Demography
