History of Goliad County
Goliad County became one of the initial twenty-three counties created in the First Congress of the Republic of Texas in 1836. The slow pace of settlement was primarily concentrated around the La Bahia Goliad town, which remained as the commercial center and also in the areas which later became cities in Charco as well as Fannin.
Demography
In 2000, the Census of 2000 the population was 6,928 with 2,644 households and 1,975 families within the county. There was a densities of the population is 8 inhabitants per square mile (3/km 2). It was home to 3,426 people, with an average of 4 people per sq mile (2/km 2). The ethnic makeup for the entire county is 82.62 percent White 4.82 percentage Black and African American, 0.55% Native American, 0.22% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 10.05% from other races and 1.73 percentage of people from at least two races. 35.20 percent of the population comprised Hispanic or Latino of any race.
2.644 households from which 33.10 percent had children under 18 years old that were in their homes, 62.10% were married couples living together, 8.70% had a female householder who had no husband present and 25.30 percent were not families. 22.80 percent of households were comprised of people with no spouses, and 11.90 percent of households had a person living in a home that was aged 65 or older. or older. The average size of a household of 2.57 while the median size of a family was 3.02.
The county’s population was distributed across the county, with 25.90 percent of the population aged 18 or less, 6.50% from 18 to 24, 25.00% from 25 to 44, 25.20% from 45 to 64 45 to 64, and 17.50 percent of people that were 65 years old or more. the age of 65 or over. In the median, there was a age of 40. To every female the number was 98.90 males. In 100 women 18 and above they had 94.10 males.
