History of Edwards County
In 1858, the county was created from Bexar County. the first parcel of land were sold off in the year 1876. Edwards County was not officially formed until 1883. The county was named after Hayden Edwards, one of the first American residents from Nacogdoches. The seat of the county was initially Bullhead and later was changed to Vance.
Demography
According to 2000, the census 2000, there were 2162 people were living in 801 households and 586 families resided within the county. The density of the population was lower than 1 km 2, (1/mi 2). The housing units in the 1,217 were 1 per mile (1/km 2). (<1/km 2). The ethnic makeup in the County was 83.26 percent White, 0.79% African American, 0.79% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 12.72 percentage of other races and 2.31 percent of multiple races. Around 45.05 percent of the inhabitants were Hispanic and Latino, regardless of race.
Of the households of 801, 31.70% had children who were younger than 18 living in them. 60.80 percent are married couples who live together 8.90 percent had female housekeepers without a husband present as well as 26.80 percent of households were not families. The majority of 24.70 percent of households were comprised of people, and 13.50 percent had a person living in a home that was 65 years old or older. The median household size of 2.66 while the median size of a family was 3.20.
