History of Brazoria County
Brazoria County was named after Brazoria River, which is the Brazos River. Brazoria is Brazoria County’s seat at the time the county was established on the 20th of December 1836 and remained that way until 1896 in which time Angleton took over. Brazoria County is located on the grasslands of Brazoria County, which is located on the Gulf Coast at the mouth of the Brazos River. It covers 1,597.44 sq miles.
Demography
According to in the census 2000, there were there were 241,767 residents, 81,954 households and 63,104 families inhabited within the County. The density of the population was 174 inhabitants in a sq mile (67/km 2). The average of 90,628 housing units was 65/mile (2.25/km). (25/km 2). The race composition in the County was 77.09 percent White, 8.50% Black or African American, 0.53% Native American, 2.00% Asian, 9.66% from other races and 2.22 percent from at least two races. The county’s population was 22.78 percent of the population comprised Hispanic and Latinos of all races. The majority of them were 12.1 percent were German, 11.2 percent American and 7.2 percent English ancestral ancestry according the the census of 2000. The majority of people 79.0 percent used exclusively English when at the home, and 18.1 percent were Spanish.
From the total of 81.955 families 40.80 percent had children under 18 years of age living in the household, 62.20 percent of them were couples who lived together. 10.40 percent of households included a female householder who had no husband as well as 23.00 percent of households were not families. The majority of 19.10 percent of households were comprised of single people. 6.40 percent of households had a person living on their own who was 65 years old or older. The average size of a household was 2.82 and the average size of a family was 3.23.
