History of Bee County
Texas was admitted to with the United States in 1845, and in 1858, Bee County was established in the Texas Legislature and was named in the honor of Col. Barnard E. Bee who was the secretary of war and also as the president Mirabeau B. Lamar’s secretary of state during the era in the Texas Republic.
Demography
In 2010, the United States Census, 31,861 residents resided within the county. 78.8 percent of them were White, 8.1% Black or African American, 0.6% Asian, 0.5% Native American, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 9.7% of another race and 2.3 percentage with two or more races. Around 56.2 percent of the population of the population were Hispanic or Latino (of any race).
At the time of the census in 2000 the population was 32,359 in the county, 906 households, and 6,578 families living within the county. The density of the population is 37 persons per sq mile (14/km 2). The housing unit count was 10,939, with the average rate of 12. people per sq mile (5/km 2). Of the 906 household members, 37.80% had children younger than 18 in their homes, 52.90 percent of them were couples who lived together as married, 14.80 percent had female housekeepers who had no husband present and 27.40 percent of households were not families. Around 23.70 percent of households were comprised of people, and 9.90 percent of households had someone living in a home on their own and was 65 years old or older. The median household size is 2.74 while the median size of a family was 3.25.
In the county the population was split in the following order: 23.40 percent younger than 18 years old, 13.30% from 18 to 24, 35.40% from 25 to 44, 17.80% from 45 to 64 as well as 10.20 percent of those that were 65 years old or more. old or older. The median age was 32 years old. In 100 females the number was 148.40 males. To every female 18 and above they had 164.90 males.
The median earnings for households within the County was $28,392 while the median for a family of four, $32,967. Males had a median salary of $26,473 as opposed to the females’ $20,666.
