History of Hardeman County
Hardeman was established in the Legislature in 1858 and an official county government was established on December 31st 1884. The county seat at first was in the Town of Margaret located in Foard County. Hardeman County has as its northern border Red River, and its west line separates it from the vast Texas Panhandle.
Demography
In 2000, according to the 2000 census at the time of the 2000 census, there were 4,724 inhabitants included 1,943 households as well as 1,319 families resided within the County. The median household size was 2.40 and the average number of families was 2.97.
