History of Gregg County
In 1873, the HTML0 was first created. The name was chosen after John Gregg, a Confederate General who was killed in combat within the Civil War. The County seat is Longview. At the time that Gregg County was created it was initially comprised of 140 square miles derived from Upshur County. it was bordered by the Sabine River was its southern border.
