History of Floyd County
The county was formed in 1876, and was later organized in 1890.. It was named after Dolphin Ward Floyd who died on his birthday, on March 6, 1836. fighting the Alamo. It was also known as the Matador Ranch, based in Motley County, once reached into Floyd County, as well.
