History of Dimmit County

Dimmit County, which was founded in 1858 it was named in honor of an earlier Pennsylvanian adventurer named Philip Dimmitt, who moved to Texas before the Texas Revolution. He served as a Captain during the war and fought to secure Texas independence.

Demography

The county was home to 84.97 percent of the residents comprised Hispanic or Latino of any race.
