Dawson County, named for Nicholas Mosby Dawson, had been created on the 21st of August 1876 however, it was later relegated with Howard County for judicial purposes until February 13th, 1905 when a an independent organization was established. Dawson County’s initial election to select officials and the county seat took place on March 20th 1905.
