History of Dallas County

Dallas County’s rich history began in 1850 with its original 2,743 settlers to its present population today. Before World War Two, Dallas was a primarily rural county of farmers, laborers, railroad men, bankers, and professional people. After World War Two, the county gradually became more urban.

Demography

In the 2015 Texas population estimation program in 2015, the county’s population was 2,541,528. the non-Hispanic white population comprised 713,835 of the county’s population (28.1 percent); non-Hispanic blacks 565,020 (22.2 percent) and other non-Hispanics 197,082 (7.7 percent) and Latinos and Hispanics (of every race) 1,065,591 (41.9 percent).

In 2018, the U.S. Census Bureau estimated Dallas County to have 2,637,772 residents, 1,027.930 housing units as well as 917,276 households. 24.3 percent of the population was residents of foreign origin. 28.6 percent of the county’s population was ethnically diverse, 23.5% Black or African American, 1.1% American Indian or Alaska Native, 6.7% Asian, 0.1 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.9% of at least two races and 40.5 percent Hispanic and Latin American of any race.

The median value for homeowner-occupied homes was $161,500 and the monthly expense with mortgages was $1,539 as of 2018. Without mortgage, the monthly payment for housing was $575. The median gross rent for residents of the county was $1,046. the homeowner-occupied rate of housing was 50.1 percent between 2014 and 2018.

The average was 2.79 per household in 2014 until 2018. 47.8 percent in Dallas County was male and 52.2 percent were female. Median age of 33.5 years old.

The median household income in Dallas County was $56,854 while 14.2 percent of the population were below the poverty line.
